blog #16 CATW 3

The article “How to Do one Thing at a Time”, adapted from Women’s Health Magazine, May 2010 says that, by now, we all know that multi-tasking can be a losing proposition. Also, in a science journal NeuroImage showed that doing multi-tasking is not good because our brains have cognitive limits.

I agree with the professor of communication at Stanfor University Mr. Clifford Nass he said “A tremendous amount of evidence shows that the brain does better when it’s performing tasking sequence rather than all at once”. One reason why I agree is because talking on the phone while driving it is a dumb idea because you are not focused on the road and neither in the conversation you having in the phone. Also, because chatting while you sending an office email are not a good idea because you might send the wrong email or maybe you might even forget to send it.

Another reason why I agree is because while am doing multi-tasking I get confuse and cannot concentrate at all. I remember once, I was doing a research paper for my philosophy class and chatting at the same time with my best friend from childhood. The conversation was with my friend was so good that I could not stop answering back to her that I totally forgot to do my research paper. By the time I remembered to do it I was so tired but yet I was trying to do it while chatting. My research paper was so bad that I was embarrass.

In conclusion, multi-tasking is really not a good idea to have things done. Also, because we damaging our brains and we could get frustrated it.

Blog#15 Revision of CATW 2

In the article “The Woman who died in the Waiting Room”, from Newsweek by Jennen Interlandi states that public hospitals across the country have struggled to provide psychiatric care to the poor and uninsured since the early 1960s. In one of the biggest hospitals from Brooklyn a lady died in the waiting room.
I agree with the idea that” there are a lot of poor, uninsured and undocumented people that cannot get any treatment what so ever”. Most of these people suffer from diseases that have no cure, and they cannot get the right treatment because they do not have enough money to pay.    I had a friend whose mother was undocumented and had cancer. She tried to go to every hospital possible but they could not help her because she was undocumented and did not have enough money to pay. As a cause of these my friend’s mother past away because the cancer had developed more and was untreated and even if it was treatable she could not get that privilege.
Another reason why I agree is because I have seen people in the emergency room waiting hours and nobody would help them out because they don’t have medicate or they not citizens. It is really a dumb idea because we all humans and we all need to have the same treatment it should not depend on what class they come from or if they have papers or not.
In conclusion, to these article I think the government should do something about it and try to fix this case, because it is unfair for the poor people not to get treated  like any other citizens in the USA.

revision of catw 1

The article “An Education in Citizenship” that was published in the Chicago Tribute Editorial on March 31, 2003. Talks about how important are to be a citizen in the USA. Almost every state requires that all college students have to pay tuition. Immigrants student have to this tuition more than a citizen student. The state of Illinois has passed a law in which it states that they should let illegal students pay in-state tuition at any Illinois college or university.
The author says “No one wants to see any able student deprived of a good higher education”. I agree with the authors point of view because we all capable of learning something new every day. I also, think that every student out there should be able to pay the in-state tuition payment that way they are able to attend college and have a better future.
I have my own personal experience am an immigrant student and I have to pay more than what any student from New York pays. I don’t think is fair because we all should have the same right so we are all able to attend to school.
In this country having the citizenship is something important. Citizenship is the definition of the rights and responsibilities and this is why young immigrants in Illinois and other states cannot reach their goals because they cannot afford to pay the tuition or them not citizens.

consequentialism

The movie “Gone Baby Gone” directed by Ben Affleck is about two young private detectives whose names are Patrick (main character) and his girlfriend Angie they are hired to take a closer look at the mysterious disappearance of a little girl and soon discover that nothing is what seems. This people will have to risk everything like their relationship and even their own lives to find a little girl whose name was Amanda and was 4 years old. The detectives were told that little Amanda was kidnap and they don’t have enough time because by the time they find her she might be kill and after all the trouble they when through they found out that it was all a plan of officer Remy and Lionel (Amanda’s uncle) and other guys that were involved in this plan.
In the movie we have two sides the ethical and the consequentialism side. One of the detectives is on the ethical side. He believes that Amanda has to be taken back to his logical mother and that’s what he did. Once he found little Amanda he gave it back to his mother because that’s what he promise Helene (mother).
On the other side Angie was an ethical because she believe that everything happens for a reason. She new that Amanda was better off with officer Lionel becuase she knew she was going to have a better life.

In conclusion, the movie did not pick a side because Patrick itself made his own choice to give Amanda back to the logical mom and u actually see how the movie does not concentrate in one side it kind of show a lil of both side and its the protagonist who made the choice.

CATW Practice II

The article "The Woman who dies in the waiting room" by Jeneen Interlandi, in the Newsweek on July 12, 2008. Talks about how a lady died because publix hospitals across the country have problems providing psychiatric care to the poor and uninsured people since the early 1960s.
In one of the rooms from Brooklyn largest psyciaatric hospitals a womand names Esmin Green fell out of her chair in the waiting room and for like almost an hour nobody notice what happened to her, for twenty minutes this lady try to help herself out.
People that work there pass by the room and they did not have the chance to stop and see what was going on and ti heck her wital signs. After fourty minutes a nurse walked in and kind of kick her by mistale but, by thta time the old lady has pass away.

I agree with the idea that there is a lot of poor, uninsured and undoumented people that an not get any treatment what so ever. Most of these people suffer from diseasses that have no cure, and they can not get the right treatment becuase they do not have enough money to pay.
I had a friend whose mother was undoumented and had aner  and ould not get the right treatment. She try to go toevery hospital possible but they would not help her because she would not help her beause she was undocumented and did not have enough money to pay.

As a causse of this my friend's mother pass awasy because the cancer had developed more and was untreable she could not get that privalage.

In conclusion, to this article I think the goverment should do something about it ans try to fix this case, becasue it is unfair for the poor, uninsured and undocumented people not to get treated like any other citizen in this counry.

Hero and anti-hero in the movie Hero

A hero is a person who perform great tasks for other people, they are self-less and very honest they almost near perfect. In the other hand, an anti-hero is the opposite they imperfect sometimes they unethical.                                                                                                                     In the movie Hero one the protagonist named Bernie LaPlante to me he is a hero because he save 64 passengers from the airplane that crashed right in front of him that night when he was going to see his kid to take him to the movies. He also save John Bubber from killing himself. So in here he proves ti me that he would perform a great task for other people. Tjis is one of the characteristics that some one should have to be a hero.
anither protagonist from the movie is Jonh Bubber nd I think his an anti-hero because he did not really help out all the people that where in the airplane. He made the news believed that he was the hero becuase he wanted the money. This proves to me that he is not honest nd that his unethical.
