blog #16 CATW 3

The article “How to Do one Thing at a Time”, adapted from Women’s Health Magazine, May 2010 says that, by now, we all know that multi-tasking can be a losing proposition. Also, in a science journal NeuroImage showed that doing multi-tasking is not good because our brains have cognitive limits.

I agree with the professor of communication at Stanfor University Mr. Clifford Nass he said “A tremendous amount of evidence shows that the brain does better when it’s performing tasking sequence rather than all at once”. One reason why I agree is because talking on the phone while driving it is a dumb idea because you are not focused on the road and neither in the conversation you having in the phone. Also, because chatting while you sending an office email are not a good idea because you might send the wrong email or maybe you might even forget to send it.

Another reason why I agree is because while am doing multi-tasking I get confuse and cannot concentrate at all. I remember once, I was doing a research paper for my philosophy class and chatting at the same time with my best friend from childhood. The conversation was with my friend was so good that I could not stop answering back to her that I totally forgot to do my research paper. By the time I remembered to do it I was so tired but yet I was trying to do it while chatting. My research paper was so bad that I was embarrass.

In conclusion, multi-tasking is really not a good idea to have things done. Also, because we damaging our brains and we could get frustrated it.

Blog#15 Revision of CATW 2

In the article “The Woman who died in the Waiting Room”, from Newsweek by Jennen Interlandi states that public hospitals across the country have struggled to provide psychiatric care to the poor and uninsured since the early 1960s. In one of the biggest hospitals from Brooklyn a lady died in the waiting room.
I agree with the idea that” there are a lot of poor, uninsured and undocumented people that cannot get any treatment what so ever”. Most of these people suffer from diseases that have no cure, and they cannot get the right treatment because they do not have enough money to pay.    I had a friend whose mother was undocumented and had cancer. She tried to go to every hospital possible but they could not help her because she was undocumented and did not have enough money to pay. As a cause of these my friend’s mother past away because the cancer had developed more and was untreated and even if it was treatable she could not get that privilege.
Another reason why I agree is because I have seen people in the emergency room waiting hours and nobody would help them out because they don’t have medicate or they not citizens. It is really a dumb idea because we all humans and we all need to have the same treatment it should not depend on what class they come from or if they have papers or not.
In conclusion, to these article I think the government should do something about it and try to fix this case, because it is unfair for the poor people not to get treated  like any other citizens in the USA.

revision of catw 1

The article “An Education in Citizenship” that was published in the Chicago Tribute Editorial on March 31, 2003. Talks about how important are to be a citizen in the USA. Almost every state requires that all college students have to pay tuition. Immigrants student have to this tuition more than a citizen student. The state of Illinois has passed a law in which it states that they should let illegal students pay in-state tuition at any Illinois college or university.
The author says “No one wants to see any able student deprived of a good higher education”. I agree with the authors point of view because we all capable of learning something new every day. I also, think that every student out there should be able to pay the in-state tuition payment that way they are able to attend college and have a better future.
I have my own personal experience am an immigrant student and I have to pay more than what any student from New York pays. I don’t think is fair because we all should have the same right so we are all able to attend to school.
In this country having the citizenship is something important. Citizenship is the definition of the rights and responsibilities and this is why young immigrants in Illinois and other states cannot reach their goals because they cannot afford to pay the tuition or them not citizens.

consequentialism

The movie “Gone Baby Gone” directed by Ben Affleck is about two young private detectives whose names are Patrick (main character) and his girlfriend Angie they are hired to take a closer look at the mysterious disappearance of a little girl and soon discover that nothing is what seems. This people will have to risk everything like their relationship and even their own lives to find a little girl whose name was Amanda and was 4 years old. The detectives were told that little Amanda was kidnap and they don’t have enough time because by the time they find her she might be kill and after all the trouble they when through they found out that it was all a plan of officer Remy and Lionel (Amanda’s uncle) and other guys that were involved in this plan.
In the movie we have two sides the ethical and the consequentialism side. One of the detectives is on the ethical side. He believes that Amanda has to be taken back to his logical mother and that’s what he did. Once he found little Amanda he gave it back to his mother because that’s what he promise Helene (mother).
On the other side Angie was an ethical because she believe that everything happens for a reason. She new that Amanda was better off with officer Lionel becuase she knew she was going to have a better life.

In conclusion, the movie did not pick a side because Patrick itself made his own choice to give Amanda back to the logical mom and u actually see how the movie does not concentrate in one side it kind of show a lil of both side and its the protagonist who made the choice.

CATW Practice II

The article "The Woman who dies in the waiting room" by Jeneen Interlandi, in the Newsweek on July 12, 2008. Talks about how a lady died because publix hospitals across the country have problems providing psychiatric care to the poor and uninsured people since the early 1960s.
In one of the rooms from Brooklyn largest psyciaatric hospitals a womand names Esmin Green fell out of her chair in the waiting room and for like almost an hour nobody notice what happened to her, for twenty minutes this lady try to help herself out.
People that work there pass by the room and they did not have the chance to stop and see what was going on and ti heck her wital signs. After fourty minutes a nurse walked in and kind of kick her by mistale but, by thta time the old lady has pass away.

I agree with the idea that there is a lot of poor, uninsured and undoumented people that an not get any treatment what so ever. Most of these people suffer from diseasses that have no cure, and they can not get the right treatment becuase they do not have enough money to pay.
I had a friend whose mother was undoumented and had aner  and ould not get the right treatment. She try to go toevery hospital possible but they would not help her because she would not help her beause she was undocumented and did not have enough money to pay.

As a causse of this my friend's mother pass awasy because the cancer had developed more and was untreable she could not get that privalage.

In conclusion, to this article I think the goverment should do something about it ans try to fix this case, becasue it is unfair for the poor, uninsured and undocumented people not to get treated like any other citizen in this counry.

Hero and anti-hero in the movie Hero

A hero is a person who perform great tasks for other people, they are self-less and very honest they almost near perfect. In the other hand, an anti-hero is the opposite they imperfect sometimes they unethical.                                                                                                                     In the movie Hero one the protagonist named Bernie LaPlante to me he is a hero because he save 64 passengers from the airplane that crashed right in front of him that night when he was going to see his kid to take him to the movies. He also save John Bubber from killing himself. So in here he proves ti me that he would perform a great task for other people. Tjis is one of the characteristics that some one should have to be a hero.
anither protagonist from the movie is Jonh Bubber nd I think his an anti-hero because he did not really help out all the people that where in the airplane. He made the news believed that he was the hero becuase he wanted the money. This proves to me that he is not honest nd that his unethical.

blog #9

THE ARTICLE "AN EDUCATIONAL IN CITIZENSHIP" CHICAGO TRIBUNE EDITORIAL 31 MARCH 2003. TALKSABOUT HOW IMPORTANT IS FOR THE STATE OF ILLINOIS IS TO HAVE A CITIZENSHIP.

THE ILLINOIS HOUSE RECENTLY HAS PASS A BILL IN WHICH IT WOULD ALLOW YOUNG PEOPLE WHO ARE UN THE U.S ILLEGALLY TO PAY THE IN-STATE TUITION RATES AT ILLINOIS DIFFERENCES IS BETWEEN $5,302 FOR THE CURRENT IN-STATE TUTION RATE AND FOR THE OUT -OF-THE-STATE RATE IS $13,906. THERE IS MORE THAN 3,000 YOUNG PEOPLE THAT ARE IMMIGRANTS IN ILLINOIS THAT HAVE TO STAY WITHOUT AN EDUATION

IN THIS COUNTRY HAVING THE CITIZENSHIP IS SOMETHING IMPORTANT. CITIZEENSHIP IS THE DEFINITION OF RIGHTS AND RESPONSABILITIES AND THIS IS WHAT YOUNG IMMIGRANTS IN ILLINOIS DO NOT HAVE AND CAN NOT REACH THEIR GOALS BECAUSE THEY NOT ABLE TO PAY TUITION OR BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT CITIZENS.

summary of 'the red pill or blue pill"

The article Red pill and Blue pill: Is Ignorance Bliss? Adapted from The Matrix, liberal education, and other splinters in the mind by Christine Cornell and Patrick Malcolmson. The article talks about how some people rather live in their own illusion and do not want to know the truth but, other humans choose to know the truth rather than reality.
According to the author some humans choose to come out of their illusion and face the real world like Neo from The Matrix, he choose to drink the red pill and was brave enough to face the real world even though he wasn’t ready. Most of the people chose to stay in their own illusion and don’t want to see what is the reality about.  Once people find out the real world they feel good knowing that the real worl is different from their illusion

The Heroic Choice in the Matrix

One of the choices Neo has to make in The Matrix is save Morpheus from the agents. The reason why the agents want it to kill Morpheus because they wanted the code for them to be able to access the real world. So Morpheus people had to disconnect him, but Neo refuse to and said he was going to rescues him so he sacrifice his life to save Morpheus.
Another choice he made in The Matrix was choosing to leave The Matrix and find out what the real world is out there. I think he was brave enough to made this choose even though he did not know what he had to go through. Once he was out of The Matrix he started to knew what the real world was and how fake it was.

response to I know the truth

According to the article " I know the truth, So don't bother me with facts" by Jeffrey Kluger in time magazine, talks about how easy society could believe in facts even though they know it might be wrong.

The authors states that society is affected by lies and rumors. For example, the mosque that is going to be build tenth miles away from the 9/11 on the site of the coat factory. A lot of Americans do not agree with this because they have read a lot of things on the newspapers that are against the place where they want to build it but they would not read or have not read the opposite which it could be good things about the Culture Center.
Another thing the author mentions is hard to let people understand the truth even with evidence because what is already in the human’s brain is hard to prove wrong no matter if you have evidence that proves them wrong. In the other hand we have some people that may not always agree with the facts so they actually welling to believe in the truth.
At some point in your life you must of have live an illusion you was trap in your own cave. When I was a child I use to believe in Santa Clause I mean who did not believe in him at some point of your life. I use to believe Santa was real until I was 9 years old, no matter what my friends use to say I was trap in my illusion that Santa does exist and that all they saying is lies to me, but one Christmas eve I cough my grandmother putting my present under the tree. So, at the age of 9 is when I came out of ma cave and believe the reality Santa never exists is just something that we all grow up believing in it.
Like in the allegory of the cave the author prove to us that living in a cave for your entire life and leaving in your own illusion would not help you realize what’s really going on out there in the real world. The allegory of the cave and I know the truth so dint bother me with facts relate to each other. The way they realty to each other is that people live in their own illusion and they do not want to accept reality because they afraid to know was behind the real world.

review of the summary

Our nature is not all about the enlightenment not everything in life is colorful and a good example of how our nature is unenlightened. The main idea of the “Allegory of the Cave” is that people are trap in their own illusion and they would not accept what reality really is. Leaving underground is something no human being would like to experience but in this case a group of people been in a tunnel since their childhood they were chain together and facing a wall, they could not even turn their neck. On back of them there was a long walk reaching the light. This people could not differentiate any object because all they would see is shadows. For example, they would see something and they would call it book because of the shape but it might not be a book it could be a frame or any other object. They not even able to see who was really talking they though it was one of the guys around them but it was not it was people from outside and when they use to pass by their echo would hit the wall and would spread the voice around the den.

One of the guys was release and when he went out there to the real world his eyes hurt it him do to the light and he did not accept the real world because he was use to the world he lived in. The hardest thing for him was recognizing the subject around him because he never saw them before, so for him it was really hard and he felt sorry for the prisoners who are underground.
When he came back to the cave he told all the other prisoners that the world out there is way different from what is inside the den.

"Hype"

Now a days you can not look around and see an empty spot do to advertisement. Advertisement are one of the most popular thmgs that go around the world. from the moment youu get up until the moment you go to bed you would read nd listen to propaganda.
The  increase of advertisment had inrease drastacally over past years and yet is not enough for the industrial world. Some examples of where you see propaganda as soon as you turn on the t.v or radio you are already listening to propaganda. another way is while you read a magazine or a newspaper.
advertisment has not only be created for adults but also for kids, they watch pepsi and sneakers ads in their classroom, so now not only outside but also inside your kids lassroom you would find logos representive their bussiness or companies.
No one would be able to run away from this advertisements because no matter where you go you would always find ads.
In conclusion, remember that we now live in the twenty first century and a lot of things have change and having advertisement all arounhd us is one of the things we have to face nhow a days.

"How to do one thing at a time"

Doing many things at once could be a big problem. The article "How to do one thing at a Time" adopted from Womens's Magazine, May 2010 shows why doing many things at once is a problem.
This passage talks about hhow multi-task can be a losing proposition. in other words when your doing a lot of things a lot of things at once is a not a smart idea that we chose as a human being. Talking  on the phone or texting while driving is really not a smart idea at all if we really think bout it.
Well, according to the author of tis article texting while you are driving? really dumb idea, this one one of the multi-task we normaly do and it could bring you a lot of consequences. Once of the reason why texting while driving is not a smart move is because you are not really focus in either one. Most of the time the driver is more concern in what is he or she is going to write back, and this could cause an accident. It might not be a really bad accident but you not only hurting yourself you also hurting somebody else.
I have had an expirience, I was not the driver but my brother was. He was texting while driving and he did not notiuce he pass a red light. As a result of these he did not only get a ticket but he also lost 2 points in his driving lincense. What the autjor is trying to make us understand is that making more than one thing at a time is not good because you are not paying attention to none of the activities you are doing.
In conclusion, multi-task is something we should not do if we want things to come out the right way and not regret it later on. Remember that you not only hurting yourself but also others.
